Jamaica - Travel Guide

Jamaica is an island state within the Commonwealth of Nations in the Caribbean.
The name derives from the arawakischen or Chaymakas Xaymaca, meaning as much as source country or wood-land and water. The former colony is known for its diverse culture, but also for their social and economic problems.


Jamaica is the third largest island in the Greater Antilles. Off the south coast is the Pedro Bank, an underwater survey, which has an area of ​​8000 square kilometers with a depth of less than 100 meters. In the bank, Pedro Cays, an archipelago located with a total area of 23 hectares.







The territory includes not only the main island of Jamaica and the Pedro Cays still located about 60 kilometers southeast of Morant Cays archipelago.
The atolls Serranilla Bank, Bajo Nuevo and Alice Shoal are in the co-managed marine area from Jamaica and Colombia.
