Airlie Beach is a tourist center of Australia with 2,751 inhabitants. It lies on the east coast of Australia in Queensland between Cairns and Brisbane. In the immediate vicinity are the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. Airlie Beach is located at approximately the same latitude as Tahiti and impresses with its pleasant tropical climate. The place is located in the local government area (LGA) Whitsunday region.
The Airlie Beach's economy relies mainly on tourism. In the city there are plenty of accommodation options for every budget. But the dominant group are the backpackers. Along the main street there are numerous travel agencies also offer one-day or multi-day sailing trips to the islands. Also, many people use the opportunity to learn to dive here.
Access to the sea is, however, associated with particular risks in Airlie Beach. Airlie Beach is located approximately 30 kilometers east of the Bruce Highway. A branch of the Bruce Highway is located in the town of Proserpine.
Proserpine is the nearest railway station. From here trains run almost daily to Cairns or Brisbane, including the famous Sunlander from Brisbane to Cairns. There are also shuttle services to and from Airlie Beach for every incoming train. Whitsunday Transit operates between Cannonvale and Shute Harbour at half hourly bus service. There are several daily bus service to Proserpine. The train and bus services are coordinated.
The airport of Airlie Beach, the Whitsunday Coast Airport, is located about 40 kilometers west of Airlie Beach. From here there are regular flights to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. For regional air services between the islands and Airlie Beach or fly over the Great Barrier Reef or the Whitsundays Airlie Beach Located between the harbor and airport Landshut Whitsunday Airport offers. Also, this is the best way to fly over the famous Heart Reef.
Airlie Lagoon is a haven for swimmers who don’t want to have to play dodge the stingers, and a trek into Conway National Park is well rewarded at Cedar Creek Falls. The falls tumble 12m through rainforest into a stream that’s suitable for swimming.
As sunset breaks low on the water, the sailboats bobbing at and off Airlie Beach form a spectacular orange skyline. Minutes from the beach, the town caters for holidaymakers and is a hub of fine dining, fast food, pubs and nightclubs fit for the regular city party animal.
