San Francisco City and County of official San Francisco,commonly abbreviated as SF, or more familiarly in Frisco, is a city of the United States located in California between the Pacific Ocean to the west and the San Francisco Bay to the east. The city is located at the north end of the San Francisco Peninsula.

The main symbols of the city are the Golden Gate Bridge, the former prison island of Alcatraz, the Transamerica Pyramid, Coit Tower and the cable cars. City of tolerance and empowerment of minorities, it is also known for its Chinatown, hippie and gay neighborhoods and its many hills. It represents a cultural center,major economic and tourism in the United States.
The city is located in an area of high seismic risk due to the presence of the San Andreas Fault. The latter crosses the region of the San Francisco Bay from north to south.
