Salzburg is a city in Austria and the center of the homonymous province. It is the fourth largest city in Austria and is located on the border with Germany.
Nearby Salzburg salt mines are located, which were exploited until 1989 when they are closed. They are now one of the tourist attractions.
Salzburg Old Town (Altstadt), known worldwide for its baroque architecture, is considered one of the best-preserved towns north of the Alps. Since 1996. the oldpart of Salzburg has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage in Europe.
Because of it’s architecture Salzburg is often called in the past German Rome. Its present appearance dates from a period of 16, 17 and 18 century when it began the transformation from medieval to baroque city.
Salzburg is also the hometown of Mozart and the city where Mozart spent his early childhood.
