Linz Travel Guide

Linz represents the urban, contemporary image of Austria and its youth culture. This is the city that is firmly connected with the 21 century, and despite the fact that doesn’t have old-world architecture, like Vienna or Salzburg, it‘s becoming more and more attractive, due to the modern art and new technology stakes: Lentos (The Museum of Contemporary and Modern Art) and Ars Electronica Center (that is also known as the” Museum of the future”) are the most famous crystalline venues.

And this city doesn’t stop its development, but it’s going further and further, so that this industrial powerhouse has become European Capital of Culture for 2009.
In many parts of Linz where few years before there were only unsightly smoke stacks, the authorities had tried to give them life and spirit and had turned them into public art installations, galleries, pieces of art and technology. And even though this city strives for the contemporary design, it is still full of life and soul.

Just next to the modernist cubes, you will find many snug cafes where you can taste the scrumptious Linzer Torte, the typical Austrian sweet named after the city of Linz. Numerous hip bars are located in the narrow streets od the Altstadt (old town). The creaking railway of Linz is listed in the Guinness Book of records as the world’s steepest adhesion railway.

As soon as you make only one step in this city, you’ll understand that just a brief sightseeing won’t be enough to enjoy in its beauty.
